House probe of P1.8-B fertilizer deal sought
MANILA, Philippines — The militant Makabayan coalition in the House of Representatives is seeking an investigation into the purchase of P1.8 billion worth of allegedly overpriced fertilizers by the Department of Agriculture.
House Resolution No. 992 is asking the House committees on agriculture and food, and on good government and public accountability, to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, on allegations that the fertilizers were overpriced by at least P271.7 million.
Agriculture Secretary William Dar, however, dismissed the claims, saying they have been transparent in the procurement of the fertilizer for its Rice Resiliency Program (RRP). The RRP aims to boost the country’s rice production to 93 percent by end-2021.
