LEGAZPI CITY –– The Department of Agriculture (DA) would turn over P2.2 million worth of farm equipment and garden tools to public elementary and secondary schools in Bicol.
Emilia Bordado, spokesperson of DA in Bicol, said 945 public schools would benefit from the “Gulayan sa Paaralan” (Vegetable Farming in Schools) under their High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP).
For this year, around 200 public elementary schools in Albay have expressed their intent to establish vegetable nurseries; 305 in Camarines Sur; 100 in Camarines Norte; 150 in Masbate; 100 in Sorsogon, and 90 in Catanduanes.
Last year, 920 schools participated in the Gulayan sa Paaralan. Some schools not included in the target of the HVCDP were also given vegetable seeds, garden tools, and others upon request.
