Dive accident
A DIVER , who went spearfishing in seawaters off Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday, was found dead by colleagues 200 feet below the sea.
Alvin Uy, who was in his mid-50s, didn’t reach the hospital alive.
Renan Olayao, a scuba diver and businessman, said he knew Uy would frequent a dive shop in barangay Punta Engano to rent diving gear and contact a boat to go to neighboring islands for spearfishing with a colleague.
Olayao said rescuers found Uy’s body underwater, with enough oxygen for 30 minutes.
Olayao said Uy may have gone deeper than 200 meters, where the sea temperature could have affected him.
Lapu-Lapu City police however said the incident was not reported to them yet. ./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
