2 returning to Palawan town infected with coronavirus

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—Two individuals who had been stranded and recently returned to the town of Sofronio Espanola, south of Palawan province, tested positive for SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Dr. Rhodora Tingson, municipal health officer, said on Friday (June 19) afternoon that the two patients showed no symptoms and had been quarantined.

The two male patients were among Palawenos who had been stranded by COVID-19 lockdowns. They had been brought back to Palawan by 2Go Shipping Lines and arrived on June 5. At least four of the returning Palawan residents were positive for coronavirus.

Tingson said at least 10 residents of Sofronio Espanola had come into contact with the infected returnees.

The new infections bring the province’s COVID-19 tally to 11. Nine of those involved stranded individuals and returning overseas Filipino workers.
