Visayas, Caraga to have cloudy skies, thunderstorms — Pagasa

Public Weather Forecast Issued at 4:00 AM June 18, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — The entire Visayas and the Caraga Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms on Thursday due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.

Pagasa weather specialist Ariel Rojas warned there could be occasions when strong thunderstorms may occur in the said regions.

“Posible po ang biglaang pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa dahil may okasyon na malalakas ang thunderstorms especially sa may silangan at kanlurang bahagi ng Visayas,” he said in a 4 a.m. weather update.

(Sudden flooding and landslides may occur because there could be strong thunderstorms especially in the eastern and western portions of Visayas.)

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers or thunderstorms also due to the ITCZ, according to Pagasa’s weather bulletin.

ITCZ is the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemisphere which causes the formation of clouds that bring rains in affected areas.

Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

Rojas said Pagasa is not monitoring any weather disturbance that could enter or develop in the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the next three to five days.
