MANILA, Philippines — The main Land Transportation Office (LTO) as well as its licensing office on East Avenue in Quezon City stopped its operations on Wednesday after 12 employees were found positive for the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19.
The infected workers were among the 100 employees who took rapid testing. The 12 personnel are due to undertake swab tests.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said they decided to suspend operations starting Wednesday noon until Friday, June 19, to allow disinfection of its offices.
“The health and safety of our employees, as well as those of the public whom we are serving is important. We have suspended operations in order to make sure that the threat of spreading the coronavirus at our offices is contained. We are now conducting disinfection as well as further testing on all of our employees,” Galvante said in a statement.
With this development, the LTO chief also aid, all employees of the two LTO offices will be tested for the new coronavirus on Thursday, June 18.
The LTO main office and licensing office on East Avenue will resume operations on Monday, June 22. (Jim Mendoza, Trainee)
