MANILA, Philippines — The new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has postponed the June 19 commissioning of BRP Jose Rizal, the country’s first missile-capable frigate.
Navy flag officer-in-command Vice Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo told reporters on Tuesday that one of the crew members of the ship initially tested positive for the new coronavirus but was subsequently cleared by a confirmatory swab test.
“Although he already tested negative, the whole ship will have to undergo the 14-day quarantine [from] the time he was tested positive (for the virus),” Bacordo said.
The BRP Jose Rizal has a maiden crew of 65 sailors headed by Capt. Jerry Garrido Jr.
