Quezon town registers 1st COVID-19 case

LUCENA CITY –– General Luna town in Quezon province has recorded its first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case since the pandemic broke out, Mayor Matt Erwin Florido revealed Tuesday.

Florido disclosed on his Facebook page that the town’s first COVID-19 patient is a 36-year-old female with a business at the market of the neighboring town of Catanauan.

“She is an APOR (an authorized person outside of residence),” Florido said.

He said the patient who lives in Barangay San Jose in the coastal town of General Luna is confined to a medical facility in Catanauan. The patient is in stable condition.

Florido immediately placed Barangay San Jose, particularly Purok (sub-village) Sabang, under “lockdown” for 24 hours starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday for an aggressive contact tracing.

He appealed to his townmates not to panic and avoid spreading fake news. He said he would not tolerate discrimination against the confirmed COVID-19 patient and suspects.

Catanauan has nine COVID-19 cases with no recovered patients yet. The latest three cases were recorded on June 14.
