An overweight Labrador got stuck in a park bench in China while in the middle of a photoshoot with its owner. Six people rushed to the dog’s aid and it took them 10 minutes to yank it out of the bench.
The 3-year-old Wang Xiaozhuang, or “Zhuang Zhuang,” is a retired police dog, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday, June 9. His owner, Ms. Wang, was out in the park with her pet for a photo session on June 6 when the accident occurred.
According to the pet owner, in the middle of their shoot Zhuang Zhuang became “too tired” because he was “too fat.” The woman and her pet were looking for some place to rest when the Labrador jumped on the bench after seeing two girls sitting there.
“[He] somehow slipped out and got stuck there because he has a big bum,” Wang was quoted as saying.
Six bystanders helped the dog get out of the bench. Wang said they tried to get the dog out “in so many ways” before finally succeeding. The dog appeared to be not harmed during the rescue.
Wang said Zhuang Zhuang’s weight gain was due to its big appetite and sudden lack of exercise and training. Since the dog retired, it has reached the weight of 45 kilograms, its heaviest state. According to the report, Wang’s husband is a police trainer and the couple has been taking care of the dog since it was a one-month-old puppy.
“He used to limp when walking and I thought he had arthritis,” Wang said in the report. “Then we learned it was because he was too fat and his joints were strained.”
Wang said the Labrador’s stomach was like a “bottomless pit,” but they are now trying to feed him less to help the dog shed some weight. Cha Lino /ra
