MANILA, Philippines — A police officer of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was killed by unknown assailants in Parañaque City on Tuesday.

Cpl. Michael Banaag, assigned at the 3rd Company of the NCRPO’s Mobile Force Battalion, died after being shot repeatedly in the face and body.

A police report said that Banaag was driving his motorcycle around 7:15 p.m. on his way home to Tondo, Manila, when two men on a motorcycle shot him on the East Service Road, outside the Dungon Street gate of Barangay San Martin de Porres.

In 2011, he and other policemen from the Sta. Ana police station in Manila were charged with robbery extortion, grave threats and violation of the Violence Against Women and their Children Act after a trader and his younger brother claimed they were arrested on trumped-up charges.
