MANILA, Philippines — Charges will be filed by the police against 125 residents of two streets in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City, who violated quarantine protocols despite a three-day lockdown.
In a report to report to Mayor Edwin Olivarez, several residents of Tramo I and II were caught loitering in the streets, talking to neighbors even though the area was under “calibrated and reasonable” lockdown from Thursday morning to Saturday midnight.
“‘Sari-sari’ stores [were] open and some residents [were] even buying beers and liquors even though it [was] already curfew,” the report said.
Quoting the Quezon City Police District chie,f Col. Robin King Sarmiento, the report went on to say that some residents, when arrested, said they were bored inside their houses.
“They don’t care if they get arrested,” it added.
Sarmiento said that the residents currently detained at the city police headquarters would be charged with violation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act, and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
