House OKs bill to build new hospital in Bacolod City

BACOLOD CITY—The House of Representatives on Wednesday (June 3) passed on final reading a bill establishing a tertiary hospital to be known as Bacolod City General Hospital.

Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, who authored the bill, said a counterpart measure will be filed at the Senate by the health committee chaired by Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.

During the hearing of the bill, the Department of Health (DOH) committed to finance the construction of the hospital and installation of needed equipment.

Gasataya said the DOH will also provide help in the first few years of the hospital’s operations with the Bacolod City government eventually taking over.

Under the guidelines of the DOH, a tertiary general hospital offers services like family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency services and outpatient services.

It also offers ancillary and support services like clinical lab services, imaging facility services and pharmacy services.

Along with these, facilities like physical medicine and rehab unit, ambulances, dialysis clinic, clinical lab, blood bank and X-ray room could also be given to the hospital, Gasataya said.
