MANILA, Philippines —  Police officers who will allow pillion (back riding) passengers on their motorcycles during the less stringent general community quarantine will be facing administrative cases, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Friday.

“Makakaasa kayo na we will file the necessary charges against those police officers na nauna pa lumalabag sa mga pamantayan ng IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases),” DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said over dzBB when asked about police officers caught having pillion riders on their motorcycles.

(Expect that we will file the necessary charges against those police officers who violate IATF’s quarantine guidelines.)

Malaya said they received photos from the public that some law enforcers have been violating the government’s ban on motorcycle pillion riding during the ongoing coronavirus quarantine.

Malaya also warned police officers that they will lose “credibility” as enforcers of the law if they violate quarantine rules.

The IATF has banned motorcycle taxis and motorcycle pillion riding for relatives and married couples as these transportation modes do not observe physical distancing.
