Cebu City and Mandaue City were placed under enhanced community quarantine until May 31.

Earlier, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella appealed to the national government to downgrade the quarantine category in his city from ECQ to GCQ since there has been a downward trend of COVID-19 cases in his jurisdiction.

Aside from Cebu City and Mandaue City, GCQ will be imposed in Pangasinan, Region II, Region III, Region IV-A (Calabarzon), Region VII, Zamboanga City, Davao City, and Metro Manila beginning June 1.

As of May 29, the Philippines logged 16,634 cases of COVID-19 infections. This count includes 942 deaths and 3,720 recoveries.
