MANILA, Philippines — The chief of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has proposed the creation of a virology institute in the country.

Science Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said that once a law was passed by the Congress and approved by the President, it would be called Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines or VIP.

“The institute is envisioned to be the premier research institute in the field of virology encompassing all areas in viruses and viral diseases in humans, plants and animals,” De la Peña noted.
