Jailbreak follows inmates’ massage on Laguna town cop
SAN PEDRO CITY—A police officer found himself in hot water after three inmates escaped while under his watch in the town of Calauan, Laguna province.
According to a report from the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police, the jailbreak happened around 1 a.m. on Tuesday (May 26) in the municipal police detention facility.
The inmates found the chance to escape after police SSgt. Eric Yrigan, guard on duty, let two of the inmates—Jaycin Lucrida and Melbert Roxas—out of their cells to give the policeman a massage.
Yrigan was leading Lucrida and Roxas back to their cells when Roxas, who faced rape charges, took the chance to run away. Two other inmates, Noel Ibareta and Mark Spencer Mendoza, who were charged with murder and rape, also escaped as Yrigan was opening the cell gate.
Police recaptured Roxas at the village of Silangan in Calauan, while manhunt continued for the other two escapees.
The police report said charges will be filed against Yrigan and other jail employees for possible neglect of duty.
