MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to deport an overstaying Saudi Arabian national wanted by authorities in his country for fraud and embezzlement.

Bandar Hamdi Alshalwi, 44, was offloaded from a Saudi Airlines flight to Jeddah last May 16 and was turned over to the BI warden in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City. Alshalwi was the subject of a red notice issued by the Interpol on Feb. 12, 2015 after authorities in Riyadh learned he

had fled to the Philippines to avoid prosecution. He allegedly defrauded his victims of more than 7 million Saudi riyals, or nearly US$2 million. —Tina G. Santos
