31 health workers recover from COVID-19, 15 more get infected

MANILA, Philippines — The number of healthcare workers who have recovered from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) rose to 1,049 as the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 31 new recoveries on Thursday.

However, 15 more medical frontliners have contracted the coronavirus, bringing the total of infected health professionals to 2,330.

The DOH recorded no new death among the workers, the total of which remained at 31.

The number of fatalities among healthcare workers decreased to 31 from the previous 35 as the DOH found out that two of the 35 were not in active duty while the other two were not healthcare professionals at all.

This was the result of verification and validation, Assistant to the Health Secretary Beverly Ho explained.

“Nalaman namin na yung dalawa sa kanila ay no longer in active duty and the two other deaths are actually non-healthcare workers,” she said during an online press conference.

She further noted that it has been 10 days since the last death among medical frontliners have been recorded.

So far, there are 13,434 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country, 9,588 of which are considered active.

A total of 3,000 individuals were able to recover from the deadly respiratory disease while 846 have succumbed to it.
