MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government released P364 million in one day for distribution to residents affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Makati Mayor Abby Binay said that the amount benefitted 72,777 residents, as part of the “MAKA-tulong 5K for 500K+ Makatizens” program, which aims to give P5,000 cash aid to the city’s half a million residents.
According to the statement, P158,925,000 was given to 31,785 residents in District 1and P204,960,000 was given to 40,992 residents in District 2.
The cash assistance is under the city government’s P2.7-billion expanded economic relief program, which was approved April 21 but was deferred to give way to the national government’s Social Amelioration Program.
To qualify for the Makati program, one must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Makati, or of any of the relocation sites managed by Makati in San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan and Calauan in Laguna.
Recipients must be registered either as a Makatizen Card holder or as a Yellow Card holder under the Makati Health Program, or as a voter in Makati.
