Quezon COVID-19 update: 40 recoveries, active virus carriers down to 26

LUCENA CITY – At least two more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients have recovered in Quezon province, bringing the total number of recuperated patients to 40, health authorities disclosed Monday.

In its 8 a.m. report Monday, the Quezon Public Information Office (QPIO), citing the latest report from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), traced the latest recoveries to Lucena City and Calauag town.

Quezon now has 73 confirmed COVID-19 cases on record.

With the reported 40 recoveries of confirmed cases and the death of seven others, the number of active coronavirus carriers in the province is down to 26. They are all confined in undisclosed hospitals.

Lucena City, the capital of the province, has logged 19 recovered patients out of its recorded 29 COVID-19 cases.

Calauag listed its second recuperated patient out of its eight recorded COVID-19 carriers. The first virus carrier in the locality had died.

The QPIO also reported 1,457 suspected coronavirus carriers in the province, a spike from the Sunday’s list of only 1,295.

The report also recorded eight new mortalities from the list of suspected virus carriers. The total number of casualties from those classified as “suspects” rose to 40 from its last record of 32 on Sunday.

However, a total of 1,099 suspected virus carriers have already been discharged from hospitals or completed home quarantine.

At least 128 “suspects” are still confined in different hospitals, and 190 are still under home quarantine.

The QPIO also recorded three “probable” patients – one is confined in an undisclosed hospital, and the other two have already completed home quarantine.

Meanwhile, the latest “confirmed COVID-19 case” in the province is identified as a two-year-old boy from Buenavista town, the youngest recorded virus carrier in Quezon.

The local government of Buenavista on its Facebook page revealed that the boy had no travel records to places with confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The boy was admitted to a hospital in Gumaca town on April 17 due to serious skin illness and slight fever and subsequently took a swab test for coronavirus.

His positive test result came out May 10. The boy, the first COVID-19 case in the municipality, is in stable condition. He was taken to a medical facility in Lucena City for confinement.

Quezon, which is considered as high risk or “red” province, is under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until May 15.

But according to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, Quezon is one of the areas in the country that is expected to be placed under “general community quarantine” status once the ECQ ends.
