Folayang faces tough Brazilian foe today

Explosive mixed martial arts (MMA) action will be on hand at the Cebu International Convention Center as the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Cebu 7 fight card dubbed “Dominate” kicks off tonight in Mandaue City.

Highlighting the action will be the return to the ring of the country’s best MMA fighter, URCC welterweight champion Eduard “The Landslide” Folayang. He will be taking on Brazilian Muay Thai expert Wadson “Knockout” Teixeira in the main event.

The superfight will have Folayang of Team Lakay Wushu, who is coming off a gold medal stint in the recent Southeast Asian Games, put at stake his 10-1 (win-loss) record against Teixeira of Team Legacy at a catchweight of 160 lbs. Teixeira holds a 4-3 record.

For Folayang, this is his first fight since 2010 and the powerhouse fighter was appreciative of the chance to fight in Cebu. It is also his first local fight outside of Manila.

“I prepared well for this fight. Tingnan muna natin how the match will flow before I can go ahead with whatever gameplan I come up with,” said Folayang.

Teixeira, on the other hand, had much respect for his opponent. “This is a big fight. I’m really looking forward to this match,” the Brazilian said through an interpreter.

Aside from the main event, there will also be titles at stake with the Visayan pin weight title being fought over by the champion Victor “Gladiator” Torre of Deftac Bacolod Fight Club and the challenger Geronimo “El Matador” Etac of Team Yaw Yan Ardigma.

The other title fight will be between the champion Rex “T-Rex” De Lara of Tinagan Warriors and Carry “The Prince” Bullos of Sel-Def MMA for the Visayan bantamweight crown.
