A fraternity member was shot dead inside a shanty in barangay Poblacion, Liloan town, northern Cebu, last Wednesday afternoon.
The killing of Jade Lirasan, 20, could be fraternity-related, said police.
The victim was a member of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity.
PO2 Gabriel Opoc, investigator of the Liloan police, said a background check on the victim revealed that he had received death threats from a rival fraternity.
Police said investigation is under way to identify the assailants.
A witness told police that Lirasan was in a shanty in sitio Greenhills texting on his cell phone when three men on a motorcycle arrived.
One of the backriders approached Lirasan and shot him several times.
The assailants drove off toward Compostela town. The motorcycle didn’t have a plate number.
The victim was rushed to the Eversley Child Sanitarium Hospital in Mandaue City but did not make it alive.
Police recovered three empty shells and a slug of a .9mm pistol at the crime scene.
A witness told police that the assailants wore helmets and covered their faces with handkerchiefs.
The gunman was sporting a long hair, said the witness.
The shanty where Lirasan was killed served as a meeting place for barangay workers after a cleanup drive.
