MANILA, Philippines — Novel coronavirus infection in the country continues to increase, recording 147 new cases on Saturday, boosting the tally to 10, 610.
This comes even as the latest data of the Department of Health (DOH) also reported a rising number of patients recovering from COVID-19: 108 new recoveries, bringing the total to 1,842.
Further, DOH said eight more died due to the disease with the death toll now at 704.
COVID-19 is a severe respiratory ailment caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which outbreak started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.
The World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
Globally, the virus already infected more than 4 million people and killed more than 276,300 as of May 9. On the other hand, over 1.3 million people have recovered so far from the illness.
