LEGAZPI CITY –– Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter with police on Friday morning in a remote village in Bulan town in Sorsogon province.

Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said members of the police Special Action Force clashed with a group of NPA rebels at 5:30 a.m. in Barangay Dolos.

The running gun battle led to the death of two still unidentified NPA rebels. The bodies of the slain rebels are in police custody.

Police also recovered five assault rifles, ammunition, and documents at the clash site.

Checkpoints were set up in neighboring villages for possible interception of the fleeing rebels.
