ZAMBOANGA CITY—The first COVID-19 patient in Zamboanga del Norte province is a 63-year-old Norwegian, according to health officials.

Dr. Joshua Brillantes, assistant regional director of the Department of Health (DOH), said the foreigner was admitted in one of the private hospitals in Dipolog City because of a heart disease.

He gave samples for testing and asked to be airlifted to Manila last May 2.

“We only got his results today and he is positive,” Brillantes said.

The DOH official said contact tracing is ongoing to include health professionals who “helped in his medical evaluation.”
