5 cockfighting fans in Agusan del Sur found with coronavirus antibodies

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur, Philippines — Five cockfighting aficionados who went to the six-cock derby in Davao City last March were found to have coronavirus antibodies in a rapid test conducted here.

The five are among 85 derby-goers from Agusan del Sur province who underwent rapid testing administered by the Provincial Health Office.

Dr. Jacqueline Frances F. Momville, provincial health officer, said the rapid test was inconclusive and they were awaiting the result of confirmatory reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests.

Even then, Momville said they were already doing profiling of the persons and contact tracing.

Of the five, two are from Veruela town, one from Prosperidad, and two from Bayugan City, said Agusan del Sur Gov. Santiago Cane Jr.

But Cane cautioned that the only conclusive result about whether these persons had the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) would be from the RT-PCR test.

The governor hoped that more derby-goers come out and be tested in order to ease the worries of the people in the province.
