DOH: 1,694 health workers infected with coronavirus
MANILA, Philippines — There are 1,694 health professionals who have been infected with the novel coronavirus, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday.
The number of health workers who have died from the respiratory disease remains at 33, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during a televised press briefing.
Of those infected with the virus, Vergeire said 566 are doctors, 638 are nurses, 104 are nursing assistants, 66 are medical technologists, 32 are radiologic technologists, 18 are respiratory therapists and 14 are pharmacists.
There are 237 other healthcare workers – which consist of dentists, barangay health workers and administrative aides – confirmed to have the respiratory disease, Vergeire added.
Meanwhile, six more healthcare workers have recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries to 256.
As of Friday, there are 8,772 confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide with 579 fatalities and 1,084 recoveries.
