Pinoy fighters to star in Battle of Heroes
ONE Fighting Championship, Asia’s most prestigious mixed martial arts promotion, announced the details of its long awaited second show this week entitled ONE Fighting Championship 2 – Battle of Heroes at the BritAma Arena, also known as Sports Mall Kelapa Gading, in Jakarta, Indonesia on Feb. 11th.
The event will feature four top Filipino fighters.
URCC Featherweight king Eric Kelly was one of the stars of the show at ONE FC 1 in Singapore last September. He took home a huge ‘Submission of the Night’ bonus after defeating Mitch Chilson and the Baguio-based fighter will be back in action next month.
Kelly stakes his undefeated record against top ranked Korean Bae Young Kwon and will be looking to make it seven wins out of seven in his professional mixed martial arts career.
Another URCC fighter, Manila’s Jessie Rafols, is on the undercard against Irshaad Sayed from South Africa in a bantamweight contest.
Eduard Folayang made the headlines after winning in spectacular style at ONE FC’s inaugural event and once again the main event fight will feature a Filipino fighter. Former kickboxing world champion Ole Laursen will be up against Japan’s Felipe Enomoto the Euro CFC Champion in the final fight of the night.
Article continues after this advertisementCompleting the Filipino contingent is flyweight Geje Eustaquio who is also based in Baguio, a city which produces many of the nation’s top mixed martial artists. He trains alongside Folayang at Team Lakay Wushu and will be taking on Alex Silva who is a BJJ World Champion from Brazil.
Article continues after this advertisementThe card will also feature a heavyweight contest between BJJ legend Rolles Gracie and K-1, Dream and Pride veteran Bob Sapp. Between them these two giants weigh 600 lbs, making this the biggest fight one is likely to see this year.
After Jakarta, ONE FC is will visit the Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 31.
There is no shortage of Filipino fighters on the roster with URCC champions Roy Docyogen, Kevin Belingon and Honorio Banario all signed.
ONE FC CEO and owner, Victor Cui, is excited to see so much talent emerging from the MMA scene in the Philippines.
