DOH: Practice family planning amid pandemic

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reminded couples to continue using family planning methods amid the United Nations’ warning that lockdowns across the world may lead to an estimated seven million unintended pregnancies.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that even in areas under enhanced community quarantine, family planning services, devices and advice were available to the public in health centers.

Barangay health workers can also hand out to couples a three-month supply of condoms and pills, she said. Or couples may contact the DOH’s telemedicine hotlines (02) 8424-1724 and (02) 7798-8000 for inquiries on where to access family planning services.
