MANILA, Philippines — A member of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly using a recovered motorcycle used in an anti-illegal operation in Marikina City.
Philippine National Police-Intelligence Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) chief Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee on Wednesday identified the rogue policeman as Patrolman Orlando Perez, 43, who lives in Marikina City.
Elements of PNP-IMEG, NCRPO and Special Action Force apprehended Perez after he was caught in the act of using a recovered motorcycle near his residence in Marikina City at 4:50 p.m.
Lee said the motorcycle was owned by a drug suspect who was arrested during an anti-drug operation in Marikina City last April 5.
He also noted that Perez did not declare the motorcycle as part of evidence during the inventory of confiscated items.
Perez is now under police custody of PNP-IMEG while filing of criminal and administrative cases is being prepared against him.
PNP-IMEG will also coordinate with NCRPO to further investigate the incident and identify Perez’s other accomplices.
The PNP-IMEG chief said he will ensure the arrest of rogue policemen despite the ongoing lockdown.
“There will be no respite in the crackdown against scalawags amid the enhanced community quarantine against COVID-19,” Lee said in a statement.
