Duterte to address the nation anew

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to address the nation anew Monday night, Malacañang said.

“The President will address the people tonight,” Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a message to reporters.

It was unclear, however, what the President’s address will be about.

This marks the President’s first address since extending the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila and several “high-risk” provinces until May 15 to contain the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, Duterte placed areas that are not included in the lockdown extension under a general community quarantine starting May 1 where some restrictions will be relaxed.

As of Monday, there are 7,777 confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide, with 511 deaths and 932 recoveries.
