MANILA, Philippines — The number 55 would seem nothing for some, but for Vice President Leni Robredo it’s a fortuitous figure.

On Thursday, Robredo celebrated her 55th birthday as well as the over P55-million donations that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) has so far received through its fund drive to help the country’s COVID-19 frontliners.

On her personal Facebook account, Robredo shared that OVP has already raised a total of P55.80 million that was donated by her office’s various private sector partners. She captioned her post: “55M @ 55” – the latter an apparent reference to her birth anniversary as he turned 55 this day.

As of posting time, Robredo’s post has garnered more than 7,000 reactions and 1,000 shares.

According to OVP’s anti-poverty program Angat Buhay and its partners, the monetary donation is equivalent to 126,266 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets for health workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic, and 15,426 food and care packages.

Of these, 88,800 PPE sets good for 15 days and 7,764 food and care packs have already been distributed to 5,920 frontliners and 487 hospitals nationwide.

OVP said those who want to extend help to frontliners and other sectors affected by the pandemic can still send their cash donations through various online apps and to OVP’s Bank of the Philippine Islands account details of which were mentioned in Robredo’s Facebook post.

Aside from PPE sets and food and care packs, Robredo’s office has also provided other assistance to frontliners, including free shuttle services since the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine stopped the operation of mass transportation and free stay in dormitories that OVP arranged all over Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
