MANILA, Philippines—A beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) from Gumaca, Quezon on Saturday returned cash aid of P6,500 to the local government amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) placed over Luzon and other parts of the country.

“Tunay na sa gitna ng kagipitan, nangingibabaw pa rin ang kabutihang-loob ng ating mga kababayan (It is true that amid a crisis, the kindness of our countrymen prevails),” the local government unit (LGU) of Gumaca said Tuesday on Facebook.

Norberto Bondoy returned the cash he received from the government’s social amelioration program (SAP), which was mandated by the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act of 2020 implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a beneficiary of 4Ps, a government program aimed at helping out low-income Filipino families, Bondoy has been receiving cash grants aside from the aid from SAP.

“Nawa’y magsilbing inspirasyon po ito upang ipagpatuloy natin ang ating pagtutulungan at malasakit sa kapwa sa panahong tayo ay sinusubok ng pagkakataon (We hope this serves as an inspiration for people to continue helping and caring for one another amid challenge times),” the Gumaca LGU said.

Bondoy is the second individual from Gumaca to return cash aid to the government.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases earlier stated that 4Ps beneficiaries and pensioners are still covered by SAP.

About 18 million low-income Filipino families are set to receive P200 billion worth of cash aid under the Bayanihan law. Those qualified as beneficiaries will get between P5,000 to P8,000; the amounts are based on the prevailing wage rates in the regions where the beneficiaries live.
