Coast Guard adds rescue of fishermen to coronavirus relief mission

TAGBILARAN CITY—The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued three fishermen after their boat capsized off the village of Booy in this city on Tuesday (April 21).

In a report, the PCG in Western Bohol said it was supposed to distribute coronavirus aid to fishermen hurting from COVID-19 lockdowns when PCG men saw a fishing boat partially submerged in the water.

The rescued fishermen the were indentified as Samuel Remerata, 55, Demetrio Doperte, 38, and Eduardo Homarito, 51–all residents of the village of Ubujan in Tagbilaran City.

The rescued fishermen told authorities that they went out to sea when their boat was battered by big waves and strong currents, causing it to capsize.

The PCG towed the boat to the shallow area of the sea and loaded it onto the PCG’s rescue boat.

The three fishermen were brought home to their village and given relief goods.
