TACLOBAN CITY –– A series of earthquakes ranging from magnitude 1.4 to 4.6 rocked some parts of Leyte and Southern Leyte on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
A magnitude 2.4 tremor was felt in Capoocan town in Leyte at 8:48 a.m. A minute later, a magnitude 1.5 was recorded in Matag-ob town also in Leyte.
A series of quakes also hit Southern Leyte, but no damage to property was reported.
The first earthquake was recorded in St. Bernard town at 5:45 a.m. with a magnitude of 4.6.
A tremor of lesser magnitude – 2.8 – occurred again in St. Bernard, less than an hour later at 6:37 a.m.
About the same time, another earthquake shook San Francisco town with a magnitude of 2.2.
Several milder earthquakes followed in two other towns in Southern Leyte – a magnitude 1.7 in Anahawan town at 7:01 a.m. and a magnitude 2.4 in San Juan town at 10:30 a.m.
The quakes in Leyte and Southern Leyte were all tectonic in origin.
