Alleged leader of gun-for-hire group in Batangas nabbed
MANILA, Philippines — An alleged leader of a gun-for-hire group in Batangas and suspect in the killing of a municipal councilor in 2009 was arrested in Laguna early Wednesday, a police official said.
Chief Inspector Jay Agcaoili, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Batangas chief, said that Ceperino Atienza was arrested at Barangay (village)Santisimo Rosario San Pablo City, Laguna around 4:30 a.m.
Ceperino went into hiding after two of his men were killed in Jan. 24, 2009 following the shooting of
municipal councilor Ompo Malipol at Sto. Tomas in which he was the alleged gunman.
Recovered during the operation were a caliber .45 pistol, magazine of a carbine rifle and other ammunition, Agcaoili said.
