Bataan to use hotels for frontliners

BALANGA CITY, Bataan –– Bataan Gov. Albert Garcia last week commissioned idle hotels in the province to make life more comfortable for doctors, nurses, and other hospital workers fighting to contain the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Garcia said about 280 doctors, nurses, nursing attendants, and other health workers could stay at six hotels in Balanga City, after making arrangements with their owners so medical frontliners could be shielded from discrimination that sprouted up in Balanga and Mariveles town.

Bataan would also shoulder the cost of their meals and other provisions while staying at these hotels. Many health workers reported being harassed on their way from home after work.

Last week, more than 40 hospital workers, who take care of infected patients, have tested positive for the virus. Most of them, reports said, sleep in the hospital.
