BAGUIO CITY –– A 22-year-old nurse on Tuesday (April 21) has caught the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), making her the second nurse to be infected while treating patients afflicted with the virus at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
The woman is a resident of La Trinidad, Benguet’s capital town.
But Baguio has listed her as the city’s 19th COVID-19 patient, because the new patient’s contacts are at the BGHMC, according to Dr. Rowena Galpo, the city health services officer.
The first nurse, a 33-year-old man serving BGHMC, tested positive on April 15.
To keep down transmissions on the last two weeks of the Luzon quarantine, the Baguio government and police officials have intensified the enforcement of a 24-hour curfew, and have arrested people loitering outside their homes.
As of Tuesday (April 21), the Cordillera Region recorded 24 infections.
The BGHMC nurse is undergoing an epidemiological investigation process, according to Dr. Leamor Fangonilo, head of the BGHMC public health unit, during an online briefing.
