MANILA, Philippines — Fire swept through houses along Delpan Street in Tondo, Manila on Wednesday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) National Capital Region said.
In an initial report, the BFP said the blaze hit the residential area at 9:32 a.m. and was raised to third alarm after 4 minutes.
The blaze was declared under control at 10:21 a.m. and was completely extinguished after more than one hour.
A report from Supt. Gerandie Agonos of the BFP Manila said that 20 houses were destroyed while over 40 families were left homeless by the fire.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also ordered the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office to escort affected families to the Baseco Evacuation Center which will serve as their temporary shelter.
The cause of the fire is still unidentified as firefighters are still putting out the blaze, as of posting.
