BAGUIO CITY, Philippines  — A stroke patient, who has not been able to leave home, has been stricken with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), prompting Mayor Benjamin Magalong to lockdown the villages (barangays) of Pacdal where he resides and T.Alonzo which his wife had recently visited.

Magalong said the city epidemiology team is investigating how the 77-year-old man contracted the contagious coronavirus.

His wife informed city authorities that the COVID-19 patient was frequently visited by a nephew who flew back to work in Thailand on March 14.

The woman sought medical treatment on April 2 for a bout of coughing that cleared up and had attended a meeting set by a local cooperative in T.Alonzo on April 11, according to the city public information office.

As of Tuesday (April 14), 12 of the city’s 16 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged.
