MANILA, Philippines — Makati City will shoulder the expenses for the cremation of patients who died from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the local government announced Tuesday.
In a statement, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said that the city inked a partnership with a private company that would provide crematory machines to the city.
Under the memorandum of agreement between the city government and the company, the firm will manage crematory procedures for one year.
NewLife will also help the city in building a temporary crematorium at the Makati Park and Garden, the mayor stated.
Binay added that the cremation process is safe, as it passed the protocols set up by the Department of Health (DOH).
The cremation of each body will cost P18,300 per person, the Makati City mayor disclosed.
“In these trying times, the city government wishes to show its support and compassion for the family of the deceased by shouldering the cremation expenses. This is the least we could do to console them,” Binay said.
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the coronavirus cases in the country soared to 5,223.
