MANILA, Philippines — Sorsogon is set to place all persons under investigation (PUI) and persons under monitoring (PUM) for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) under mass quarantine.

Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Tuesday said he has required PUMs and PUIs to be admitted into a government quarantine facility.

“DAY 28 of ECQ… Issued an EO requiring mass quarantining of all incoming  PUMs and PUIs in a government quarantine facility beginning tomorrow,” Escudero said in a tweet.

Earlier, Escudero asked mayors of the province to identify government facilities that may be temporarily converted into isolation areas for COVID-19 patients.

Sorsogon was placed under a state of calamity due to “localized transmission” of the virus.

The Philippines has so far recorded 4,932 cases of COVID-19 with 315 fatalities.
