Cebu City police chief relieved for hitting cops
CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines —The city’s police chief, Col. Hector Grijaldo Jr., was relieved of his post on Thursday for hitting at least two policemen in the head.
A closed-circuit television footage showed him hitting the two while he was inspecting a police station and made the rounds on social media over the Holy Week, drawing flak from netizens.
Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, regional police director, ordered Grijaldo’s relief to serve as a lesson to all policemen that no one was above the law.
Ferro designated Col. Josefino Ligan of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division as acting city police director.
Grijaldo, who was barely a month in his post, was assigned to the regional headquarters pending investigation. He declined to comment on his relief.
