Las Piñas COVID-19 cases rise to 56; cases of PUIs, PUMs decrease

MANILA, Philippines—The Las Piñas City government has recorded two more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases since yesterday, bringing the total of infection cases in the city to 56 as of Saturday morning.

The city currently has 40 active COVID-19 cases as 10 patients have already recovered while six people have died of the disease.

The numbers of patients under investigation (PUIs) and persons under monitoring (PUMs) have meanwhile decreased to 55 and 300, respectively, from yesterday’s record of 60 PUIs and 321 PUMs.

The country has meanwhile recorded 4,195 COVID-19 cases, 221 deaths and 140 recoveries, as of April 10.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The disease originated in Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province in late 2019.

For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
