MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental in the early hours of Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake struck at 2:45 a.m. at 141 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos.
The tremor was of tectonic origin, and had a 52-kilometer depth of focus.
Phivolcs said that earthquake was felt in other areas at various intensities:
- Instrumental Intensity II — Kiamba, Alabel, and Malungon, Sarangani
- Instrumental Intensity I — General Santos City and Tupi, South Cotabato; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental
The government’s seismology department said that no damage was expected but aftershocks may occur.
