16 scholars get funds for proposed project

Sixteen students with winning proposals during the Aboitiz Foundation’s 1st Scholars’ Corporate Social Responsiblity (CSR) Summit last Dec. 12 and 13 in Mandaue City will have the chance to implement their own projects this year.

The students were divided into three teams.

Team Tiknoys of Raymart Abellanosa, Johanna Fretz Bayking, Winde Bontilao, Ronaldo Gonesto and Sandra Jane Soonwill implement urban agriculture project; Team Sakto of Charry dela Cruz, Aldrich Noble, Chumescene Rebadomia, Aimee Sevilleno and Maxine Ann Taveros will implement Declog, Segregate, Innovate: Green Fashion Revolution; and Team Ice Age of Tito Linao III, Kathrina Maika Montayre, Arvin Padilla, John Edward Ramirez, Jezrah Salmayor and Adriel Gamier Sanchez will be the PANLambo project.

Each team has a budget of P200,000 for their project.

The students were among the 66 college scholars of Aboitiz Group companies  — Aboitiz Foundation, Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) and Visayan Electric Company — who participated in the two-day activity.

Day 1 of the summit saw executives from the different Aboitiz companies giving an overview and insights about CSR and sharing their ideas and experiences to the scholars.

Present were Aboitiz Foundation executive vice president and managing trustee Augusto “Sonny” Carpio III, AEV senior vice president Xavier Aboitiz, Veco SVP for Engineering Sebastian Lacson, Aboitiz Foundation trustee Romy Ronquillo, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. president Roberto Aboitiz and AEV AVP for Corporate Communications Caroline Ballesteros.

The proposal-making workshop and competition was held for participants to apply the knowledge they learned from the workshop.

The proposals were judged according to feasibility, implementability and relevance (30%), originality/innovativeness (30%), sustainability (20%), teamwork (10%) and composition (10%).
