Puerto Princesa hotel being turned into COVID-19 quarantine site
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—The city government is converting a hotel here into a quarantine facility for persons under investigation (PUI), or those with symptoms of COVID-19.
The city health office and Palawan Medical Society were overseeing preparations to turn Skylight Hotel into a quarantine site and ensure it would not endanger communities nearby and the people of the city.
Dr. Mario Baquilod, director of the Department of Health (DOH) in Mimaropa, said the regional office and mental care experts were also preparing help for PUI who would be kept away from their families and friends.
A civic group also recently questioned the use of Skylight as a quarantine facility, pointing to its location which was at the “center of the city.”
But Richard Ligad, head of the city information office, said safety measures are already in place for the operation of Skylight as a quarantine facility and gave assurances that there would be no spread of COVID-19 to communities nearby.
No target date had been set for the opening of the hotel as a quarantine site as the area is still being closely inspected by medical professionals.
