DA to start aid distribution to rice farmers

/ 04:34 AM April 07, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to distribute P5,000 in cash aid to 600,000 rice farmers this week to augment their needs as the enhanced community quarantine continues to take its toll on the country’s food producers.

The checkpoints and the constricted movement of goods have slowed down demand and brought down sales and profit.

“They can use the amount to buy either farm outputs, food for their families or anything they need,” Agriculture Secretary William Dar said. The money will be coursed through the Land Bank of the Philippines.
