MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte will be giving up his salary for this month of close to P400,000 to support the government’s fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Sunday confirmed that Duterte had pledged his wages after several Cabinet officials donated a major part of their monthly pay to the COVID-19 response.

“The President is likewise donating his one-month salary for the cause,” Panelo said in a statement. As the highest official in the land, the President has the rank of Salary Grade 33 with a monthly salary of P395,858.
