12 Chinese health experts to visit PH to aid fight vs COVID-19 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Twelve Chinese health and medical experts are set to arrive in the Philippines on Sunday to give recommendations on how to improve the country’s efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.

Health Undersecretary Rosette Vergeire said the experts, composed of nurses and doctors, will visit hospitals and laboratories until April 19 to observe and recommend infection prevention protocols.

“Sila ay magoobserba at magbibigay ng rekomendasyon na angkop sa hakbang upang mapabuti ang infection protection  control, critical care (sa) laboratories,” Vergeire said in a virtual press briefing.

(They will observe and give recommendations appropriate to steps that will improve the infection prevention control, critical care in laboratories.)

Chinese health experts will visit the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa, Philippine Lung Center in Quezon City and San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, Vergeire said.

The coronavirus disease is caused by the novel coronavirus which first emerged from China’s Wuhan City of Hubei province. The virus causes mild symptoms for most people but it can cause serious illness for older adults or senior citizens and people who are diagnosed with another existing disease.

The disease has killed 144 people in the country as the cases increased to 3,094, recent data from Philippine health department showed. Meanwhile, 57 people have recovered from the illness.
